Tanmay Bhat made his scriptwriting debut in 2007 with UTV Bindass’ program ‘Hass Ley India.’ This youth-oriented show was a standup comedy show, which showcased celebrity interviews. In 2008, Tanmay Bhat wrote for ‘MTV Wassup – Voice of Youngistaan.’ The video jockey of this show was actor Ayushmann Khurrana. All India Bakchod (AIB)
In 2013, Tanmay Bhat, along with other comedians like Gursimran Khamba, Rohan Joshi, and Ashish Shakya, founded a comedy company named All India Bakchod (AIB). In the same year, they created their YouTube channel and started making comedy sketches. In 2014, they conducted ‘All India Bakchod Knockout,’ a roast program, which was hosted by Karan Johar; Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh appeared as guests on the roast program. The event was a great success. After gaining immense success, the company dissolved in 2019 due to multiple allegations and complaints filed against the entire AIB staff.

After the closing down of All India Bakchod (AIB), Tanmay Bhat started creating content on his own YouTube channel, where he started live streaming the games of PUBG: Battlegrounds in which different YouTubers took part. In 2020, Tanmay also created a new channel, ‘Honestly by Tanmay Bhat,’ on which he telecasts podcasts about the discussion on different topics like neuroscience, the stock market, taxation, and mutual funds. In 2020, Netflix India started a series in collaboration with Tanmay Bhat in which the comedian started reacting to new films and TV shows. Inquiry Against Tanmay Bhat
In May 2016, the Mumbai Police Commissioner ordered an inquiry against Tanmay Bhat after the comedian’s standup comedy video surfaced on Facebook. The video showcased a fictional conversation between Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar discussing whether Virat Kohli is better than Sachin Tendulkar or not. This video was not taken well by the fans and audience of the celebrities, and a complaint was filed by the BJP leader Ashish Shelar, accusing Tanmay Bhat of mocking and insulting Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar. FIR Against Tanmay Bhat
In 2017, an FIR was filed against the co-founder of AIB Tanmay Bhat after an inappropriate image of Narendra Modi with a dog filter was uploaded and circulated from AIB’s social media handles. The image was that of a look-alike of Narendra Modi standing with a phone in his hand using a dog filter on Snapchat. In 2015, an FIR was registered by the activist Santosh Daundkar against 14 people including Karan Johar, Arjun Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and the entire cast of All India Bakchod. In 2018, Tanmay Bhat was accused of staying quiet despite knowing the sexual harassment happening in his company, All India Bakchod. In 2023, Kotak Mahindra Bank revoked its 811 ad campaign named ‘#SamayKoSahiKaamPeLagao’ with Tanmay Bhat and Samay Raina. The campaign spurred controversy on social media when the general public started posting screenshots of Tanmay Bhat’s old tweets where he made fun of the Hindu god Ganesha.
