Biography/Wiki

He was born as Ranveer Singh Bhavnani on 6 July 1985 (age 39 years; as of 2024) in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. During the partition of India, his family shifted from Karachi to Mumbai. He removed his surname Bhavnani from his screen name as he thought the name would have been too long. He took an interest in dancing and acting since childhood. His friends and colleagues in the film industry call him by the name Bittoo. He got this name after his debut film Band Baaja Baaraat (2010) became commercially successful.

He is approximately 5’10’’ tall and weighs around 75 kg. He has a broad chest to be around 43 inches and biceps to be around 16 inches. He has dark brown eyes and black hair.

Ranveer Singh dated Deepika Padukone before getting married to her in 2018. In an episode of ‘Koffee With Karan’ (Season 8), Deepika opened up about their relationship and revealed that during their dating phase, there was no formal commitment between them. She explained that after a previous failed relationship, she was not prepared to commit, so they had a more flexible arrangement. She mentioned that they were allowed to see other people, but they kept coming back to each other. Deepika said,

Career

He did his schooling at Learners’ Academy, Mumbai and completed his graduation (Bachelor of Arts) from Indiana University, Bloomington. During his school days, he took part in numerous plays, debates, and many other competitions. While he was in University, he joined the theatre. After completing studies, he returned to Mumbai where he used to work as a Copywriter in different advertising agencies like J. Walter Thompson, O&M, etc. Later, he left the job and started working as an assistant director but again he left to fulfil his dream of becoming an actor.

He started his acting career in 2010 by playing the lead role of Bittoo Sharma, opposite Anushka Sharma in the Bollywood film Band Baaja Baaraat. The film was commercially successful and he received numerous awards for his performance such as Apsara Film & Television Producers Guild Award and Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut, International Indian Film Academy Awards for Star Debut of the Year – Male and Hottest Pair  along with Anushka Sharma, Lions Gold Awards for Favourite Debutant Actor – Male and Favourite Jodi along with Anushka Sharma, Best Debut Male Award at Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Awards, FICCI Frames Excellence Honours for Best Debut Actor, Star Screen Award for Most Promising Newcomer – Male, Stardust Award for Superstar of Tomorrow – Male, and Zee Cine Award for Best Male Debut.

After that, he did numerous hit films like Ladies vs Ricky Bahl (2011), Lootera (2013), Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013), Gunday (2014), Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), Bajirao Mastani (2015), Befikre (2016), Padmaavat (2018), etc.

In August 2023, the producers of Don 3 revealed Ranveer Singh as the new protagonist for the upcoming installment of the Don film series, taking over the role previously portrayed by Shah Rukh Khan.

Controversies

• In 2012, he was first time involved in the controversy when he tweeted on his Twitter account after watching the film Ek Tha Tiger, starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif that “EK THA TIGER felt absolute bore bt (sic) last 15min was magical. nice stunt and action @beingsalmankhan pra.” He also tweeted “While I was passing through a multiplex people after seeing Ek Tha Tiger was asking for TIGER BAAM.” After that tweet, he faced lots of criticism from the Indian cinema.

• In 2015, an FIR was lodged against him for using obscene words in public during the roast comedy show AIB Knockout.

• While he was shooting the film Dil Dhadakne Do (2015) along with Priyanka Chopra, he kissed her in front of people, which she did not like at all. She later taunted him while promoting this film for his overenthusiastic acting after which Ranveer said that he would never work with her again.
