She attended The Cathedral & John Connon School in Mumbai. She did her graduation at St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai. Later, she pursued a course in filmmaking at Yale University in Connecticut, USA. She did acting training at Barry John Acting Studio. At Yale, she received training in various aspects of acting, including speech and movement development, Shakespearean works, the Meisner technique, and the Michael Chekhov acting method, among others.

Theatre

Ira started performing at the age of six and pursued a career in both film and theatre. She participated in more than ten productions at Yale, showcasing her talent in plays such as ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream,’ ‘Othello,’ ‘The House of Bernarda Alba,’ and ‘Beckett’s Shorts.’ In September 2014, Ira embarked on a tour performing Heath Raffo’s solo play ‘9 Parts of Desire,’ directed by Lillete Dubey. Later, she appeared in Tennessee Williams’ ‘Glass Menagerie,’ and portrayed Portia in William Shakespeare’s ‘Merchant of Venice.’ In 2016, Ira was cast as Nora in Henrik Ibsen’s ‘A Doll’s House.’

In 2000, she played the role of Kavita in Zee TV’s show ‘Apna Apna Style.’

Film

She made her film debut by playing a minor role in the 2007 Hindi-English romantic musical comedy film ‘Marigold,’ featuring Salman Khan and Ali Larter. Later, she appeared in the 2009 satirical mockumentary ‘The President is Coming,’ alongside Konkona Sen Sharma and Shernaz Patel. She rose to fame by playing the role of Pinky Bose, the stylish best friend of Aisha Kapoor (played by Sonam Kapoor), in the Hindi film Aisha (2010).
