Ira started performing at the age of six and pursued a career in both film and theatre. She participated in more than ten productions at Yale, showcasing her talent in plays such as ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream,’ ‘Othello,’ ‘The House of Bernarda Alba,’ and ‘Beckett’s Shorts.’ In September 2014, Ira embarked on a tour performing Heath Raffo’s solo play ‘9 Parts of Desire,’ directed by Lillete Dubey. Later, she appeared in Tennessee Williams’ ‘Glass Menagerie,’ and portrayed Portia in William Shakespeare’s ‘Merchant of Venice.’ In 2016, Ira was cast as Nora in Henrik Ibsen’s ‘A Doll’s House.’

She made her film debut by playing a minor role in the 2007 Hindi-English romantic musical comedy film ‘Marigold,’ featuring Salman Khan and Ali Larter. She rose to fame by playing the role of Pinky Bose, the stylish best friend of Aisha Kapoor (played by Sonam Kapoor), in the Hindi film Aisha (2010).
