His father’s name is Raj Kishore Singh and he is an auto driver. His mother’s name is Pushpa Devi, who is a homemaker. He has a sister and a brother. His brother’s name is Ravi Singh.
Akash Singh was fond of dancing since childhood. While practicing dance during his school days, he developed a keen interest in a special form of dancing, known as Acro dance, which is a dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. Belonging to a village, the dancer did not access to facilities need for to practice the dance form, therefore, he started practicing on the trees of his village. Talking about his initial days, he said,
I started my aerial act in my village. You need height for aerial acts and it is not possible everywhere. So, in my village I used to hang a piece of cloth on the tree and practice.”
In 2018, Akash Singh moved from Bihar to Mumbai to build a career in aerial dancing. He went there with a sum of only two thousand and five hundred rupees. To pursue his dancing practice he started practicing on a tree near a beach in Mumbai. Later, he started participating as a back dancer in dancing shows and awards functions. In 2022. Akash auditioned for Colors TV’s Hindi-language reality television show ‘Hunarbaaz: Desh Ki Shaan,’ judged by Mithun Chakraborty, Parineeti Chopra, and Karan Johar, and got selected based on his talent. During his introduction round, he narrated his struggles in front of the judges, listening to which actress Parineeti Chopra got very emotional and she promised him to help in every possible way. Using voting panels, the live studio audience determined whether or not a contender advances to the next round throughout each performance. He was first nervous about performing in front of such renowned names, but the judges helped him feel at ease, and he delivered them his finest performance. He narrated it while talking about it,
The experience on Hunarbaaz was really nice. When I came on the show I was very scared, did not know anyone, but now everyone on the show has become like a family, all the judges and contestants. I am going to miss all of this.”
Akash Singh refined his dancing skills with each passing episode under the guidance of some professional dancer, and earned huge popularity amongst the audience. The grand finale of Hunarbaaz was held on 17 April 2022, where Akash Singh was declared as the winner of the show. He bagged the winner’s trophy and a cash price of ₹15 lakh. Yo Highness, a dance group from Mumbai’s Nala Sopara, finished second and received a cash reward of 5 lakh.
On winning his first talent show, Akash said,
I had never thought that I would win the show or will be one of the finalists. I am really happy to win, because the dream with which I came to Mumbai has been fulfilled. I am elated and so is my family. I can’t find the words to express the emotions that I am going through, and it all feels so surreal! I had started my journey on the show with a dream to make it big and today after winning the show I feel like I have fulfilled every bit of it. Judges were very supportive. They always encouraged me. It was a huge deal for me to perform in front of them. Parineeti ji who made me her brother and gave me so much love, gifted me a jacket, shoes and also tied a rakhi. I am really going to miss them a lot.”
The Hunarbaaz specially expressed his thanks for the judges pf the show, he said,
I would like to thank Karan sir, Mithun sir and Parineeti ma’am for guiding me throughout the show, and to COLORS for giving me this opportunity of a lifetime. Lastly, I want to thank my family and friends for having my back and supporting me in this life-changing journey.”
- After winning the cash money from ‘Hunarbaaz: Desh Ki Shaan,’ Akash Singh said that he would use the money to buy a house for his family. He narrated,
We don’t have a house. So, I want to make a house for my parents in our village with the prize money I won on the show. I would like to do everything to give them a better life.”
- Akash’s ambition is to work in the film industry, specially alongside Akshay Kumar.
