Salman Ali was born on 14 January 1998 (age 23 years; as in 2021) in Punhana Tehsil of Mewat district, Haryana, India. He follows Islam and belongs to the Mirasi community of a poor Muslim family. He lives in a joint family and is the youngest of his four siblings. Singing is his family tradition and he drew his inspiration for singing from his forefathers only. He joined Delhi Public School, Palwal and dropped out after completing 9th standard owing to the financial crisis. Ali was inclined towards Music from a very young age and started singing at weddings and jagarans at the age of 7.

Career
Salman Ali first came into the limelight at the age of 13 when he participated in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs in 2011. His family’s financial condition was so poor that he did not have any money to go for the auditions in Delhi. At that time, his friend, Manohar Sharma, helped him financially to appear for the auditions.
During the auditions of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs, Ali sang the song “Sajda” and impressed all three judges, Kailash Kher, Adnan Sami, and Javed Ali. He emerged as the 1st runner-up of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs in 2011.
In 2018, after 7 years, Ali auditioned for Indian Idol 10 and again sang “Sajda” in the selection round, which bagged him entry into the show. Ali is admired for his high pitch singing.
On December 23, 2018, Salman won the Indian Idol 10 beating the other four finalists. He won a cash prize of 25 lakh and a Datsun Go car.
Apart from the reality shows, Ali has composed the theme song of Sony Entertainment Television’s “Chandragupta Maurya“. He has also given Aalap in the promotional song, “Sab Badhiya Hai” of the film Sui Dhaga- Made In India.
