Career

After completing her graduation, she worked with Sify, an IT company. After working there for one year, she applied for the post of an RJ in Radio Mirchi and got selected, where she gained immense popularity with her radio show ‘Hello Chennai.’ Later, she started working as an RJ for another radio show ‘Flight983.’ She used to sing jingles for the Indian singer Timothy Madhukar, who, later, introduced her to Harris Jayaraj (Indian film composer). She got her big break as a singer from the Indian music directors Yuvan and Bharadwaj. Talking about her first recording as a singer, in an interview, she said,

My first recording for Mani Sharma was a disaster. It was a subtle love song and I had no idea how to handle it. But Mani Sir saw some potential in me I guess, and started calling me back for assignments. This gradually was helpful in moulding my voice, expressions and tone. So when Dole Dole and Ippatikinka happened, nobody could fault me. If I ever had a guru, it was Mani Sir.”

Her debut song as a singer is “Uyirin Uyire” in ‘Kakka Kakka’ (2003). She has lent her voice for more than 100 songs in Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu languages such as “En Polave Kattru” from ‘Lesa Lesa’ (2002), “Kanavu Periya Kanavugal” from ‘Ullam Ketkumae’ (2005), “June July Maadham” from ‘Kalloori’ (2007), “Excuse Me” from ‘Kanthaswamy’ (2009), and “Diamond Girl” from ‘Baadshah’ (2013).

She has appeared in a few Tamil films, like ‘Jay Jay’ (2003), ‘Aayutha Ezhuthu’ (2004), and ‘Bale Pandiya’ (2010). She has worked as a dubbing artist in various Tamil films, including ‘Thiruttu Payale’ (2006), ‘Poi Solla Porom’ (2008), ‘Kanthaswamy’ (2009), ‘Mankatha’ (2011), and ‘Naan Sigappu Manithan’ (2014). In 2014, she judged the Malayalam TV reality show ‘Music India.’ She has appeared as a wild card contestant in the popular TV reality show ‘Bigg Boss Tamil 4’ in 2020.
