Sujata was born in a middle-class Telugu speaking family in 1964 in Mumbai. During her early ages, her family was not prosperous and established. According to her, when she was 20 years old, she suffered child abuse and domestic violence.

Family

She was born to V. Krishnamoorthi (Father) and Sulochana Krishnamoorthi (Mother). She had one sibling, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi (Sister), an actress, singer, writer, and painter. Her sister Suchitra Krishnamoorthi is an ex-wife of legendary director Shekhar Kapoor.

When she was 30 years old, she bore a dead child. In her late thirties, she was divorced by her husband. She had a daughter with her ex-husband named Kritika Kumar.

Career

She started her acting career with TV serial Bombay Talking by playing the role of Sandhya Khanna. She made her film debut with The Memsahib (2006). She worked in several movies and TV serials. One of her notable works is being a sister of legendary actress Sridevi in English Vinglish movie that was released in 2012. In an interview, she disclosed that she had not good roles in the films. Before being cast in Gauri Shinde’s English Vinglish all her films flopped in which she played a role. After that, she worked in Anand L. Rai’s Raanjhanaa (2013) and Karan Johar’s Gori Tere Pyaar Mein (2013).

Apart from films, she also acted in TV serials like Hotel Kingston, Bombay Talking, and Anil Kapoor’s 24 and Jiya Jale.

Personal Life/Interests

In an interview, she said that she slept a lot in her pastimes. She enjoyed going to parties, watching movies, listening to music, reading books, etc. Her favourite book was You Can Heal Your Life (Written by Louise Hay). Her favourite films were The Anushree Experiments (2013) and Fukrey (2013).

Death

She died on 19 August 2018 due to Metastatic Cancer. She was in the fourth stage of it. In 2006, when she was 40 years old, she was diagnosed with Cancer. However, in 2012, reportedly, she was cured. After starring in English Vinglish and Raanjhanaa, she again fell into the grip of this disease. She was undergoing an operation at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. Interesting Facts

  • She was not a professional singer but she took singing classes in Carnatic music. She was a Bharatnatyam dancer also.
  • Before entering the film industry, she worked at Life Coach – Boffins and Oberoi Towers.
  • Sujata was the Chairman & Managing Director of Mumbai-based company Boffins Wit-q Games Private Limited.
