Sagarika was born on 8 January 1986 in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India. She takes a lot of interest in sports and acting since childhood. She got fame with the popular Bollywood film Chak De! India (2007) in which she played the role of Preeti Sabarwal. She also appeared in numerous fashion shows and magazines.

She belongs to a royal Kshatriya family and was born to Vijaysinh Ghatge and Urmila Ghatge. Her grandmother Sita Raje Ghatge is the daughter of Maharaja Tukojirao Holkar III of Indore. Also, Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur is her forefather. She has a brother named Shivjeet Ghatge who works as an account executive in a private company.
She has been dating the famous Indian cricketer Zaheer Khan to whom she got engaged on 24 April 2017 and got married on 23 November 2017.
Sagarika did her schooling at Mayo College Girl’s School, a boarding school in Ajmer, Rajasthan, India and did her graduation from H.R. College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai, India. During her school days, she took part in several sports competitions. She was also a national level hockey player. After completing studies, she started working as a model and did many modelling assignments. As she is a great hockey player, she got the chance to play the role of Preeti Sabarwal, a member of national hockey team of Indian women in the famous Bollywood film Chak De! India (2007). She gained lots of popularity with that film and became the brand ambassador for a global athletic footwear & apparel company Reebok India.
In 2012, she got a lead role of Ahana Sharma in the Bollywood film Rush but the film did not go well. After that, she got the lead role in Marathi film Premachi Goshta (2013) as Sonal which was quite successful.
