  • In August 2023, Sachin Pilot refuted claims made by BJP’s IT cell head, Amit Malviya, who alleged that Pilot’s father bombed Mizoram as an air force pilot on 5 March 1966; Malviya made the claim through a post on X and wrote,

Rajesh Pilot and Suresh Kalmadi were flying the Indian Air Force planes that bombed Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, on 5 March 1966. Later both became MPs on Congress tickets and ministers in the government. It is clear that Indira Gandhi gave respect and a place in politics as a reward to those who carried out air raids on their own people in the North East.”

In response, Sachin later posted a certificate that his father received from President V. V. Giri on being appointed as a Pilot Officer in the Indian Air Force on 10 February 1970. He pointed out the inaccuracies in Malviya’s post, emphasizing that his father did conduct bombing operations, but it was in erstwhile East Pakistan during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, not in Mizoram.
