Manushi Chhillar is an Indian model and actress. She won the Femina Miss India title in 2017 and was crowned the 54th Miss World 2017 after beating 108 other contestants. She is the 6th Indian woman to have won the title of Miss World after Priyanka Chopra (who won Miss World in 2000). In 2022, Manushi made her acting debut with Samrat Prithviraj.

Manushi Chhillar was born on Wednesday, 14 May 1997 (age 27 years; as of 2024) in Haryana, India. Her zodiac sign is Taurus.
She completed her schooling at St. Thomas’ Girls Senior Secondary School in New Delhi. She scored 96% in her board exams. In 12th standard, she was the All India CBSE topper in English. She started pursuing an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) degree from the Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women, Sonepat, Haryana; however, she stopped studying to pursue modelling and acting.

Manushi Chhillar started participating in modelling competitions in school and college. She was named Miss Fresher in her college.
In 2014, she represented India in a cultural exchange program held in Japan. On 25 June 2017, she took part in the Femina Miss India 2017 and represented the state of Haryana. During the competition, she was also crowned Miss Photogenic title during the sub-contests.
On 18 November 2017, she won the 54th Miss World 2017 contest and was crowned by Miss World 2016, Puerto Rico’s Stephanie Del Valle.
Manushi quit medical school to pursue a career in modelling and acting. When asked about her decision, she said,
After winning Miss World, I worked really hard to clear my medical entrance in college. I always wanted to be a doctor, I wanted to use the experience I got as Miss World and combine that with my medical degree. But life had other plans. Miss World 2017
As Miss World 2017, Manushi Chhillar came back to India on November 26, where she did a lot of work relating to charity and public well-being. Chhillar’s first press conference as Miss World was at the St Regis Hotel in Mumbai. In December 2017, the Haryana government named her the brand ambassador for the project Anaemia Free Haryana (Anaemia Mukt Haryana).
Her project called ‘Project Shakti’ got funding of Rupees 18 crore from the government to distribute free sanitary napkins to all girls in government schools in Haryana. Under this project, she visited 20 villages and helped about 5000 women. She also educated women about HIV/AIDS. She was on SET India’s Super Nights With Padman to talk about her project on menstrual hygiene with Akshay Kumar’s movie, Pad Man.
In February of 2018, she commenced her Beauty With A Purpose tour alongside other Miss World titleholders, journeying to Hyderabad and Kolkata to advocate for feminine hygiene awareness. Visiting an NGO in Kolkata, they acquired the skills to produce affordable sanitary pads and worked to ensure their availability in rural regions. After covering Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Delhi during her 42-day tour in India, she then went to Hong Kong and China and extended the tour to Indonesia.
In Indonesia, she looked over a local project and crowned Miss Indonesia 2018. Additionally, in 2018, she contributed to a charity initiative in the British Virgin Islands and participated in a gala dinner and auction, along with attending the ‘Beauty with A Purpose’ philanthropic award ceremony. In the United States, she was featured in a 16-hour TV program and joined a gala event on International Women’s Day. She presented at the South Asian Empowerment Awards before returning to India to speak at The Economic Times Women’s Forum 2018. In Brazil, she made efforts to fight and educate people on leprosy and interacted with children from a Down Syndrome organization. For her efforts, she received recognition from the Brazilian Parliament. She then went to the Philippines for a competition in May 2018 and headed to New Zealand for her campaign, where she volunteered at a charitable establishment in Auckland. After judging the Femina Miss India 2018 contest and crowning the victor, she then went to South Africa to continue her menstrual hygiene project. In South Africa, she inaugurated a Sanitary Pads Unit in Nelson Mandela’s birthplace. She also donated blankets and bicycles to those in need.
Manushi’s work as Miss World 2017 ended when she went on to crown the next Miss World, Silvia Vanessa Ponce de León Sánchez, in December 2018.
Social Work
In May 2018, Manushi walked with many women in Delhi to tell people about how important it is to manage periods well. She also helped start a big bike ride in Delhi to celebrate World Bicycle Day. Manushi worked with UNICEF to educate people about the coronavirus pandemic and to stay safe. She campaigned to get governments to give sanitary pads to female workers during the lockdown in India. In 2021, she joined with the United Nations Women to speak out against violence against women. She also supports a project called ‘Orange the World’ and advocates to stop online harassment of women.
Films
Chhillar signed a contract to act in three films with Yash Raj Films. Her first movie was Samrat Prithviraj (2022), where she played the role of Sanyogita, the wife of Prithviraj, played by Akshay Kumar. Chhillar said it was a big responsibility to play Sanyogita, a strong character who made her own important decisions. The movie didn’t do well at the box office, and critics didn’t like her performance.
In 2023, she appeared in The Great Indian Family. She faced criticism for her acting after her role in this film as well. In 2024, she starred in “Operation Valentine” with Varun Tej. In 2024, she appeared in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan with Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, where she played the role of Misha.
She is set to star opposite John Abraham in Tehran (to be released in 2024), which Dinesh Vijan directs.

In 2018, she hosted and presented awards at the South Asian Empowerment Awards event in New York. Manushi Chhillar has appeared in an advertisement alongside Ranveer Singh for Club Factory.
