Kamya Punjabi’s father is a Mumbai based businessman. Her mother’s name is Nanda Punjabi. She has two younger sisters, Sonia Punjabi and Mala Punjabi.

In 2003, she tied the knot with Bunty Negi, a businessman. Soon, their married life started facing problems, and they filed a divorce in 2006. Later, they withdrew the divorce papers and decided to give their marriage a second chance. They welcomed a baby girl, Aara in October 2009. They again started facing problems in their married life and finally decided to get divorced in 2013. ^[1]Times of India

As per the sources, Bunty Negi accused her of cheating on him with her co-star of ‘Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki’ (2005) and Sanjay Dutt’s cousin brother, Nimai Bali. ^[2]Spotboye

In 2014, Kamya met the popular TV actor Karan Patel while shooting for Box Cricket League, a celebrity cricket show. They both developed a good friendship, and soon, they fell in love with each other. They dated for almost four years. In 2018, Karan shocked everyone by announcing his marriage with the TV actress Ankita Bhargava. Reportedly, Karan was not loyal towards Kamya and was double dating, while he was in a relationship with Kamya. Whereas, as per some media sources, Karan’s parents were not ready to accept Kamya as their daughter-in-law; as she was a divorcee and a mother of one child. ^[3]Spotboye

In 2018, there were rumours that Kamya Punjabi was dating the Bigg Boss 10 winner, Manveer Gurjar. They were often spotted together in parties. However, neither Kamya nor Manveer accepted their relation. ^[4]India Today

She met a healthcare professional, Shalabh Dang, in February 2019. Soon, they both fell in love, and Shalabh proposed her for marriage. In an interview, she shared her story, she said,

I spoke to him over the phone first. I had wanted some medical advice. Some friend had given me his reference. Then, on Feb 1, he came to Bombay for some work and we had met then. It was not a personal meeting, it was work-related. Soon, we started talking. He took the initiative. It just happened gradually as we began talking. I really liked certain qualities of Shalabh. He’s been very caring and concerned for me. Obviously, we were friends in the beginning, but very soon, he proposed me for marriage.”

The couple tied the knot on 10 February 2020.

Career

Kamya Punjabi started her career as a model. She debuted as an actor in the TV horror show Ssshhhh…Koi Hai in 2001. Later, she appeared in many TV serials including Astitva…Ek Prem Kahani (2002), Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki (2005), Banoo Main Teri Dulhann (2006), and Beintehaa (2014).

Her negative role ‘Sindoora Pratap Singh’ in the Zee TV’s serial “Banoo Main Teri Dulhann” (2006) gained immense popularity. After this serial, she started getting more negative roles, and soon, she became one of the famous vamps of the Hindi TV serials.

She appeared in a few music videos like ‘Mehndi Mehndi’ (1997) and ‘Kala Shah Kala’ by Anamika (2003).

 

In 2008, she participated in ‘Comedy Circus’ along with comedian Rajiv Thakur.

She participated in ‘Bigg Boss 7’ as a contestant in 2013. Gauhar Khan won the title of Bigg Boss 7.

She did small roles in various Bollywood films like Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai (2000, girl taunting Ameesha Patel on the cruise ship), Na Tum Jaano Na Hum (2002, a lady in the final wedding scene), and Koi Mil Gaya (2003, one of the inhabitants of the hill station).

She was also seen in a Telugu movie titled ‘Maa Aavida Meeda Vottu Mee Aavida Chala Manchidi’ in 2003, in which she played the role of Prakash Raj’s fiance in Goa.

In 2016, she played the role of ‘Preeto Harak Singh’ in Colors TV serial ‘Shakti-Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki,’ which became very popular.

In 2019, she debuted in a theatre play, ‘Pajama Party’ with the television actress Kavita Kaushik.

Controversy

In 2017, she received a legal notice from a Mumbai court for releasing a short film ‘Hum Kuch Keh Naa Sakey’ starring the late TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee. Pratyusha’s boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh had filed a defamation suit against Kamya; as the story of the short film was quite similar to Pratyusha’s real-life story, and the film had a character named Rahul.
