Gursharan Kaur was born on 13 September 1937 (age 81 years) in Jalandhar, British India (now Jalandhar, Punjab, India). She did her elementary schooling from Singh Sabha school for girls and secondary schooling from Guru Nanak Kanya Pathshala, Amritsar. After her schooling, she went to Government College for Women, Patiala for graduation. After which, she enrolled herself at Khalsa College, Amritsar for Bachelor of Teaching (B.T.).
