Athletic since childhood, Guman started his journey in sports with Gully Cricket. It was his paternal uncle who encouraged him to quit cricket and establish a career in kabaddi. Guman’s speed, flexibility, and agility had impressed him. His uncle also argued that establishing a career in cricket required a lot of financial investment, which his humble family wouldn’t be able to afford. When Guman started playing, his village did not have a kabaddi ground. Therefore, his uncle spared some of his agricultural land to develop a kabaddi ground for Guman’s practice. For three years, he received training from his uncle. Later, Guman, along with his kabaddi friend Manish, enrolled in an academy. Thereafter, he participated in various tournaments. Once, he suffered an injury in his feet, which led to a downfall in his performance. In fact, at that time, he thought of quitting the sport and pursuing a job. Consequently, his uncle called him back to the village and started training him again.
