Facts/Trivia

  • In her teens, her father took her to the Bhiwani Boxing Club (BBC) in Haryana to start her training in boxing. He even risked his job to accompany her daughter for the training. In an interview, Nitu said,

My father was on ‘leave without pay’ for many days for my training. He had to borrow money from his friends and relatives to meet the family expenses.”

  • At the age of 15, she lost control while riding a two-wheeler and rammed into a tractor. In the accident, she injured her pelvic bone. In an interview, while talking about the accident, she said,

I was in a lot of pain. At first, no one paid attention to it, but then there came a time when I couldn’t turn right.”

  • In 2016, she joined the boxing training academy SAI National Boxing Academy in Rohtak, Haryana.
  • In 2019, instead of being a left-hander, she started using her right hand for hitting in boxing which put a strain on her right hand. As a result, her right shoulder had a grade 2 tear. During an interview, while talking about the shoulder injury, she said,

I fought four fights in tremendous pain. My right hand wasn’t used to that kind of load. In retrospect that was a stupid mistake on my part. I never stopped exercising and continued to take painkillers and fight. But if you’re a young, up-and-coming boxer eager to achieve something, you’re pushing the limit too far.”

Due to the injury, she remained out of the national camp. Her training was also affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in 2020. In an interview, while talking about the same, she said,

Honestly, I was in a very dark place. I thought about quitting boxing. I could never think clearly. When my shoulder healed, I slowly started training at home. Later, my father would secretly take me to the academy during the lockdown.”

  • In 2021, Nitu appeared in the Amazon Prime Video ‘India Ke Toofaan.’
