Vikas Singh is an Indian contractor, social worker, and politician who is known as a Bahubali leader in Ayodhya. He was arrested in June 2023 for helping the accomplices of the dreaded gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

Career

He has been associated with the local leader and MLA of Ayodhya, Abhay Singh, in the 2000s and early 2010s. Later, they parted ways due to some differences, and Vikas joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He became very close to Indra Pratap Tiwari alias Khabbu Tiwari, a politician of the BJP. In the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election, he campaigned for Aarti Tiwari, the wife of Khabbu Tiwari; however, she lost the election.

Controversy

Arrest in June 2023

On 20 June 2023, he was arrested in Delhi in a case registered under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) after the notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi revealed his name during an interrogation. It was later revealed that Vikas had provided shelter to the various members of the Bishnoi gang. It was alleged that Deepak Surakhpur and Divyanshu, a resident of Faizabad, attacked the Punjab Intelligence headquarters in Mohali on May 2022. They later lived at Vikas’s residence in his village Deogarh and his flat 77/04 A Block, Gomti Nagar Vistar, Lucknow for many days. The duo were also involved in the murders of businessman Sanjay Biyani in Nanded and Rana Kandhowalia in Punjab. Allegedly, Surakhpur was introduced to Vikas by Bishnoi’s friend, Vicky Middukhera. It was further alleged that Vikas also gave shelter to Rinku, another accused in Kandhowalia’s murder. In early 2020, Vikas allegedly provided shelter to Monu Dagar, Pradhan of Bahadurgarh, Cheema of Chandigarh, and Rajan of Kurukshetra at his Lucknow flat. It was later revealed that he was an accused in 10 other criminal cases of offences of murder, attempt to murder, arms act, and gangster act. He was presented in the Patiala House Court in New Delhi on 21 June 2023, and vacation judge Pawan Kumar sentenced Vikas to five days of police custody. [4]NIA [5]ANI

  • Allegedly, he was also associated with the gang of Shiv Prakash Shukla in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
  • During the campaigning in the 2022 UP Assembly elections, there was a violent fight between Abhay Singh’s followers and Vikas’s followers following which police arrested both of them and made them sign a bond of Rs 5 lakhs each. [6]Amar Ujala
