Raghav Sachar is an Indian singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist with expertise in more than 36 musical instruments.

Raghav was born on Friday, 24 July 1981 (age 42 years; as of 2023) in Kolkata, West Bengal. His zodiac sign is Leo. He grew up in a family of music lovers and was passionate about music since childhood, he began to play harmonica when he was just 4 years old. He studied at Mount St. Mary’s School, Delhi Cantt. He was selected for a cultural exchange program in Russia at the age of 15 by the Government of India as their representative. He has performed with his band Canzona at key venues like the IITs and BITS Pilani.

He studied composition and performance in Bachelor of Music from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. He even went on international tours with Monash University as their brand ambassador. Raghav’s qualifications also include affiliated courses from the Berklee College of Music, Boston and Trinity College of London. While at Monash, he worked with Shubha Mudgal on his album and even did ads with Shantanu Moitra and Pradeep Sarkar

Parents & Siblings

Raghav’s father, Rajinder Kumar Sachar, retired as the Director General of Police before which he served in the Indian Army. He has also served in the BSF. His mother’s name is Usha Sachar.

He has two elder sisters, Roshni Sachar, and Ruhi Sachar. Roshni has studied Positive Psychology and is a doctor in the USA.

Career

Albums

Raghav’s debut album, ‘For The First Time,’ was released in November 2003. The album was released through HMV Records, and it was a mixture of Indian melodies with Western musical instruments.

Following the success of the album, he then went on to release albums 24 Carat (2005), Play It Loud (2007), and Charming Lootera (2009) through Universal Music. In 2010, his album ‘Vande Mataram’ was launched, which got recognition from the Ministers Kamal Nath and Jaipal Reddy. Between 2009 and 2015, he launched 12 albums under his label ‘Raghav Sachar Music,’ founded in 2009.

Music Composer 

Raghav made his Bollywood debut as a music composer with the film, Kabul Express (2006). He worked on several other films such as Sunday (2008), One Two Three (2008), I, Me Aur Main (2013), and Rustom (2016). He has played multiple instruments in over 150 films. He also made a special appearance in the Bollywood film ‘Tum Milo Toh Sahi’ (2010).

Raghav has worked with prominent music directors such as A.R. Rahman, Vishal Dadlani, Shekhar Ravjiani, Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani, Loy Mendonsa, Salim Merchant, Sulaiman Merchant, Anu Malik, Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan, Kailash Kher, and Pritam.

  • Raghav was granted a scholarship by the Monash University in his third year of graduation. The scholarship is said to be the first and the only scholarship ever offered by the university.
  • Raghav got his first payment as a cheque of Rs. 80,000, which he gave to his dad before flying back to Australia.
  • Since 2003, he has performed in over 2000 public, corporate, and private shows.
  • Raghav was featured in National Geographic’s worldwide television series titled ‘My Brilliant Brain.’
