Career
In 2012, Poonamben became a member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, she contested as a Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidate from the Jamnagar constituency and won. In September 2014, she was elected as a member in various parliamentary committees including Committee on Empowerment of Women, Standing Committee on Industry, Consultative Committee, and Ministry of Civil Aviation. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, she was again elected as the member of Lok Sabha from the Jamnagar constituency.
Controversy
Poonamben made headlines when in an event named ‘Bhagwat Katha’ organised in Veraval, Gujarat, she was seen dancing. The interesting part is that she was showered with over 3 Crore rupees in merely 30 seconds.
