In the post, Saini emphasized that the company’s commitment is to offer quality education and ensure an impartial learning environment. On 19 August 2023, Karan Sangwan uploaded a video on his YouTube channel and addressed the issue. He clarified that his statement about voting for educated candidates was made on his personal channel, not Unacademy’s. Following this, he removed the video upon Unacademy’s request. On 13 August 2023, Unacademy suspended him, demanding a justification within 48 hours. Karan stated that he was terminated on 17 August without any discussion or opportunity to defend his stance. He added that Unacademy’s authorities expressed concern over him wearing a company-branded t-shirt during the lecture, claiming it affected their reputation. The Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, reacted to Karan’s termination in a post on X, questioning whether urging people to vote for educated candidates was a crime. Kejriwal underscored the importance of literacy, noting that in this age of science and technology, illiterate representatives would not be able to shape a modern India for the 21st century.
