Case filed against Indra Kumar’s directed film Thank You (2022)
In 2022, a police case was filed against Indra Kumar, Ajay Devgn, and Sidharth Malhotra for his Hindi film Thank God alleging that the film hurts the religious sentiments of the Kayastha community. According to sources, the case was filed after Himanshu Sharma, an advocate in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, filed a petition at the Jaunpur Civil Court. In the petition filed, Srivastava said that Ajay Devgn, wearing a costume, is seen playing Chitragupta and in one of the scenes in the Hindi film, he is seen using objectionable language. The petition read,
Chitragupta is regarded as the Lord of Karma and keeps a record of a man’s good and bad deeds. Such depiction of Gods can create an unpleasant situation since it hurts religious sentiments.”
Indra Kumar faced backlash for recreating Mungda from the album Total Dhamaal (2019)
In 2019, Indra Kumar and the music composers faced severe backlash from the audience for recreating the song Mungda from the Hindi film Total Dhamaal (2019). The song was a recreation of Helen’s starred song from the movie Inkaar (1977). It was composed by the music composer Rajesh Roshan and sung by Lata Mangeshkar and her sister Usha Mangeshkar. In an interview, Music director Rajesh Roshan, and singers Usha and Lata Mangeshkar lashed out at the composers for ripping off their classic song. Later, in an interview with a media house, Indra Kumar responded to all of the accusations and said,
Lack of originality and talent in music is an understatement. We donât have to take their consent. When ‘Neend Churayi Meri’ was remade no one came to me for approval. The rights belong to the music label, and they have the right to do what they want to.There is no harm in following trends. This generation has been deprived of those beautiful songs. Our job is to pass on the gems to them. Todayâs generation isnât aware of it. My kids hadnât heard the original till I made them listen to the new version, and they loved it.” [2]DNA India
