Lina Mukherjee liked Bollywood films since she was 12 and when Shah Rukh Khan visited Jakarta in 2012, she sold her mobile to go to Khan’s concert. She met Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji there and decided to visit India to meet other Bollywood celebrities.

Controversy
Jailed for Blasphemy
In 2023, while on a trip to Bali, she posted a video on social media in which she was seen reciting a Muslim prayer ending with the word Bismillah and eating pork (which is banned in Islam) after the prayer. The video went viral following which she was criticised by several people.
The Indonesian Ulema Council termed her act as blasphemy following which a police complaint was filed against her. On 19 September 2023, the Chairman of the Panel of Judges, Roni Sianatra, at Palembang district court on Sumatra Island sentenced Lina to 2 years in prison and also imposed a fine of IDR 250 Million ($16,245 approx.) on her. She was convicted under Law Number 11 of 2008 related to Information and Electronic Transactions and Article 45 paragraph (2) of Law Number 19 of 2016.
