Girija Oak is an Indian entrepreneur and actor, who has worked in the Hindi and Marathi entertainment industries. She has appeared in several famous films and serials such as Jawan (2023), Qala (2022), Mauli (2018), Ladies Special Season 2 (2018), and Taare Zameen Par (2007). She is the daughter of the famous Marathi actor Girish Oak.

After completing her schooling, she enrolled at the Thakur College of Science and Commerce in Mumbai, where she earned a degree in business management. She has also earned a degree in biotechnology. In an interview, Girija said that when she expressed her desire to pursue an acting career to her parents, her father told her that he wouldn’t recommend her to producers or request them to give her a role in their films. She said,

My father had made it quite clear to me that he will not recommend me to anybody and I have to look for work myself. He consciously didn’t help me as he wanted me to grow on my own.” [1]DNA

Advertisement

Girija started appearing in advertisements when she was studying. In an interview, she disclosed that her fascination for appearing in ads grew stronger when she began watching television dramas with her family. She also mentioned that the catchy jingles from the commercials played a significant role in her decision. She talked about it and said,

When I was a child, I loved advertisements. I remember once the TV was switched on and the commercials were playing. Then someone switched off the TV. I turned off the TV and started crying. I was crying as Jilati Jilati.”

At the age of twelve, she appeared in her first commercial, a Savlon advertisement. She talked about her first ad, in an interview, and said that her classmates used to tease her by calling her “Savlon girl.” She said,

I did my first advertisement when I was 12 years old. I used to get teased in school for being a Savlon girl.”

Thereafter, she received offers to appear in advertisements for numerous well-known brands such as Horlicks, Dabur Chayawanprash, Vim, and Nestle. According to her, she started getting the role of a mother in the advertisements at a very young age.

Girija made her acting debut in the Marathi film industry with the 2004 film Juiley in which she essayed the role of a character named Juiley Viswasrao Patil/ Kasturi.

In the same year, she shared the screen with the popular Marathi actor Swapnil Joshi in the film Manini in which she played the role of Shalimi. She acted along with Sachin Pilgaonkar in the 2008 film Man Pakharu Pakharu. In 2009, she appeared in two Marathi films, Goshta Choti Dongraevadhi, and Gulmohar. In 2011, she bagged the role of Anuja in the film Adgula Madgula. Girija essayed the character of Revati Deshmukh in The Journey To Her Smile in 2014. She appeared as the main character’s mother in the 2018 film Mauli; Girija shared the screen with Riteish Deshmukh in the film.

In 2010, she essayed the character Sejal in Shor in the City and took on the role of Shrishti in Cycle Kick in 2011. For playing the role of Sudha in the 2022 film Qala, Girija received appreciation from her fans and film critics; the film premiered on Netflix and received numerous accolades such as Zee Cine Awards, Bollywood Hungama Style Icons Awards, and FOI Online Awards. In 2023, she shared the screen with the famous actor Shah Rukh Khan in Jawan; she appeared as a character named Ishkra. She talked about her experience of working with Shah Rukh, in an interview, and said,

I shot the movie Jawan for two years. It was a very thrilling experience. Shahrukh was coming to the sets fully prepared. Apologizes to other co-stars if retakes are caused by him. What we hear about him is that he is a very good man, he behaves very politely. All these things are true.”

In September 2023, she was seen in another Hindi film The Vaccine War, directed by the famous director Vivek Agnihotri.
