Controversy

In 2021, former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh filed a plea in the Supreme Court requesting a CBI investigation into the various corrupt practices of the Minister of Home Affairs, Anil Deshmukh. The allegations against Home Minister Anil Deshmukh came days after the Ambani Bomb Scare case investigation. Earlier, Sachin Vaze was arrested for his involvement in the case and a possible connection in the murder of Mansukh Hiren. Param Bir Singh submitted a letter in a press conference stating that Anil Deshmukh had asked Sachin Vaze to collect Rs. 100 crore every month from around 1750 bars, restaurants, and other establishments in Mumbai. Anil Deshmukh asked Sachin Vaze to collect Rs. 2-3 lakhs every month from these 1750 establishments making a total of Rs. 40-50 crore every month.

In response to the letter, Anil Deshmukh tried to defend himself and said-

This is a conspiracy by Param Bir Singh to derail the investigation into the explosives case and the suspicious death of Mansukh Hiren. The Chief Minister should conduct an impartial inquiry into the allegations. It is an attempt to defame me and the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.”

Anil Deshmukh also said that if Param Bir fails to prove his claims, Anil will file a defamation case against him. He further said-

Sensing trouble in the explosives case, Singh has levelled baseless allegations to blackmail the government,”

On 6 April 2021, the CBI registered a preliminary inquiry to probe the corruption allegations against Deshmukh.
