Vishnu Deo Sai is an Indian politician, farmer, and social worker who has served as MLA, MP, and Union Minister during his political career. He has been a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for more than 3 decades and is considered a popular tribal leader in Chhattisgarh. In 2023, he became the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.

Vishnu Deo Sai aka Vishnudev Sai [1]MyNeta was born on Friday, 21 February 1964 (age 59 years; as of 2023) in Bagiya village in Kansabel tehsil of Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh (then in Madhya Pradesh), India. Career

Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA)

Vishnu Deo Sai started his political journey in the 1980s by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and won the Sarpanch elections unopposed in his village Bagia.  He became a first-time MLA by winning from the Tapkara legislative constituency in Madhya Pradesh in 1990. He again won the Madhya Pradesh Legislative elections from the Tapkara constituency in 1993. He became an MLA from the Kunkuri constituency after winning the 2023 Chhattisgarh Legislative Elections.

Member of Parliament (MP)

He became an MP in the 13h Lok Sabha for the first time by winning the 1999 General Elections from the Raigarh constituency in Madhya Pradesh (later in Chhattisgarh).

He again won the 2004 Lok Sabha elections for the 14th Lok Sabha, 2009 Lok Sabha elections for the 15th Lok Sabha, and 2014 general elections for the 16th Lok Sabha from Raigarh constituency in Chhattisgarh. He was not given the seat from the Raigarh constituency for the 2019 general elections.

Vishnu Deo Sai was appointed as the Union Minister of State for the Ministries of Mines, Steel, and Labour and Employment on 27 May 2014, during the Narendra Modi cabinet, and was removed from the Ministry of Labour and Employment on 9 November 2014 and kept on serving as Union Minister of State for Mines and Steel till 5 July 2016. Since 5 July 2016, he has been serving as Union Minister of State of Steel.

Roles in BJP

Vishnu Deo Sai has served as the Head of Chhattisgarh BJP from 2006 to 2010, from 2013 to 2016, and from 2020 to 2022.

He led the BJP to form governments twice in Chhattisgarh under three-time Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh. He became a member of the BJP National Working Committee in December 2022. He was appointed as the Chief Minister (CM) of Chhattisgarh in 2023.

Controversy

Threatening a government officer

In August 2022, a video went viral in which Vishnu Deo Sai was seen talking to a person on the phone and threatening to bury him alive after beheading him. He was also seen hurling other abuses to the person. It was later reported that the person was a CREDA (Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development) official named Sandeep Banjare. Allegedly, A few days earlier, CREDA officials had demolished the statue of the 10th Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, to install high mast lights. The statue was installed on the Atal Chowk in Saraitoli village in Kunkuri tehsil of Jashpur district. Sai later apologised for his remarks when he was criticised for verbal abuse. [7]Aaj Tak
