Ranjith Sreenivasan (1981-2021) was an Indian lawyer. He was an active member of the Alleppey Bar Association and was the state secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party OBC Morcha. On 19 December 2021, he was murdered in his house in Vellakinar in Alappuzha.

Death – Murder
On 19 December 2021, Ranjith Sreenivasan was murdered at his home in Vellakinar in Alappuzha. According to the police reports, he was brutally killed in front of his mother, wife, and daughter. The murder case was investigated by a special team led by Alappuzha Dy. SP N. R. Jayaraj. Special Public Prosecutor Prathap G. Padickkal, and advocates Sreedevi Prathap, Shilpa Sivan, and Hareesh Kattoor represented the prosecution side. The assassination of Sreenivasan was regarded as revenge for the murder of SDPI state secretary KS Shan by alleged RSS members in the Alappuzha district the day before.

According to the investigation, there were 56 cuts on Ranjith Sreenivasan’s body and 156 witnesses were examined by the prosecution. The accused claimed that Ranjith was an advocate practising in Kerala court and that the bar in that court had declined to represent him. As a result, the Kerala High Court moved the case trial from Alappuzha Court to Mavelikkara Court. The accused petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn the earlier decision and move the trial to Ernakulam Court. The accused’s appeal, asking for a trial transfer to Ernakulam, was denied by the Supreme Court in November 2023.

On 30 January 2024, a Kerala court gave death sentence to 15 people for killing Ranjith Sreenivasan. All the convicts were members of the Popular Front of India and were convicted on 20 January 2024. [6]Hindustan Times
