In 2008, he joined the Pakistani music band named Qayaas as a vocalist. Umair was spotted by the Pakistani guitarist Khurram Waqar in a music concert in 2008 who selected him for Qayaas. In the same year, Qayaas released the Urdu song ‘Pal.’ In 2009, the band released two Urdu songs “Umeed” and “Tanha” which became very popular. In 2012, the band released the Urdu music album ‘Uss Paar.’ A few other songs released by the band are “Heal” (2012) and “Cut My Wings” (2013).
In 2012, he performed in the music TV show ‘Coke Studio Season 5’ with his band and performed on the Urdu song Charkha Nolakha with Atif Aslam.
He performed as an independent singer on the song Khayal in Coke Studio season 6 in 2013. A few other songs performed by him in various seasons of Coke Studio are “Sammi Meri Waar” in Coke Studio Season 8, “Khaki Banda” in Coke Studio Season 9, “Sasu Mangay” in Coke Studio Season 9, “Chal Raha Hoon” in Coke Studio Season 12, and “Har Funn Maula” in Coke Studio Season 13.
In 2018, he released his debut Urdu music album ‘Na Rahoon.’
He has performed live at various concerts and stage shows.
