Her father, Subramanian Swamy, is an Indian politician, economist, statistician, and a former professor of Mathematical Economics at IIT Delhi, and her mother’s name is Roxna Swamy. Suhasini has an elder sister named Gitanjali Swamy, an entrepreneur and private equity professional.

She is married to Nadeem Haidar, who is the son of former Indian Foreign Secretary Salman Haidar. The couple has two daughters named Ava Mumtaz and Maya Mehr.
Career
In 1994, Suhasini started her career in journalism as an intern at CNN’s United Nations bureau in New York. Following this, she became a producer at the CNN New Delhi bureau in April 1995. From 1995 to 2005, she had a significant tenure with CNN International. During this time, she provided regular reports from various countries in the Indian subcontinent, including India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. In 2000, she sustained injuries in a bomb blast during an in-depth reporting from conflict zones in Kashmir. She also spent a month working for CNN.com in New York, contributing to their coverage of the 9/11 attacks by al-Qaeda against the United States in 2001. Her contributions were instrumental in CNN receiving the Columbia-Dupont Broadcast Journalism Award in 2005 for its wide coverage of the 2004 Indian tsunami.
Later, she was appointed as a Correspondent for CNN International’s New Delhi bureau. From 2005 to 2014, she worked as a Foreign Affairs editor and prime-time anchor for CNN-IBN. Later, she was appointed as the Diplomatic Editor of The Hindu, where she regularly writes on foreign policy issues and hosts a weekly online show ‘WorldView with Suhasini Haidar.’ In March 2011, she was the only Indian journalist present in areas controlled by Gaddafi during the Libyan conflict. She has interviewed Prime Ministers and Presidents of many countries including Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, Former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar, and Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan.
