During her auditions for MTV Roadies, Shuly shared her traumatic experience of an abusive boyfriend and various discriminatory labels she fought owing to her dark skin colour. She revealed that at the age of 14 or 15, she fell in love with a boy who was six years older than her. The two used to play together in the neighbourhood as kids. Her boyfriend would give flattering comments about her skin colour. One day, her boyfriend’s friend approached Shuly with the message that her boyfriend was beaten up by his parents and that he wanted to meet her at some place in the night. Although Shuly belonged to a conservative South Indian family, she managed to get out of her house in the night by falsely telling her parents that she would be collecting a homework assignment from her classmate’s house. Thereafter, Shuly, along with her friend, reached the location her boyfriend had asked her to come to. Surprisingly, it was a deserted area with no commercial or residential buildings around. There, her boyfriend tried to molest her, while another guy walked in on them and told Shuly that nobody would marry her due to her dark complexion. Career
In 2022, she started working as a school teacher at Vivek Vidyalaya & Junior College in Goregaon (West), but she left her job within 7 months to prepare for a callisthenics competition. In January 2023, she participated in the Barbarian Competition and came second in the Guns & Roses category.
