His colleagues complimented him for his ability to make everyone laugh even in very stressful conditions. Soon, Rajat realised that his corporate job was not his calling, and he quit it to pursue his passion for stand-up comedy. In 2013, Rajat moved to Mumbai as there was a shortage of comedy venues in Delhi. Rajat struggled to make people laugh at the beginning of his career. He even mentioned in a YouTube video that he quit stand-up for a couple of months after tanking (failing miserably) at a few open mics. In 2015, Rajat moved back to Delhi and started working as a Project Head in the Hansa Research Group Pvt. Ltd. in Delhi. He worked there for two years and quit it in 2017. While working at this firm, Rajat began performing at open mics after office hours. After quitting his corporate job in 2017, Rajat became a professional stand-up comedian. He started performing at corporate shows, marriage functions, and even kitty parties, and thus, his audience base transitioned from a handful to a packed house.
Rajat wrote a comedy special titled ‘Bachpan’ in 2019. He performed this special almost all over India, and his shows were often fully packed.
Rajat shot to fame after his first YouTube video titled ‘Ola Share ka Suffer’ went viral in 2018; the video made him an overnight star. His YouTube channel has more than 700k subscribers as of 2021.
- Rajat describes himself as a ‘storyteller’ and an ‘attention seeker.’ His content is mostly based on eccentric observations made about the mundane lives of people. In an interview, talking about his source of humour, he said,
Mera source of humour hai observation. Jo bhi cheezan mere aas paas ho rahi hai main unhe thoda sa minutely observe karta hun jo aap [audience] shayad nahi karte. Aur kyunki shayad main ye itne saal se kar raha hun toh mera dekhne ka perpective esa ho gaya hai.”
- According to Rajat, he wasn’t very academically inclined during his school days. He scored 74.5% in the 10th standard and 75% in the 12th standard.
- Rajat considers Nitin Gupta (Rivaldo) as his favourite comedian.
- Rajat is known for his clean comedy (without using abusive language). In a YouTube video, when he was asked about his prudish content, he said,
Yr maine koi ye by choice nahi liya tha ki muje kabhi abusive content nahi dena . Main real life main corporate main kaam kar chuka hun aur main in general bhi gali nahi deta hun toh jo banda gali nahi deta toh uske content main generally gali nahi aati. Agar aap jin stand-up comic ko dekhte ho jo galliyan dete hai toh main aapko bataun ki unke tone main gali hai naki wo on purpose gali dete hai.”
- Rajat delivered a TED talk at The NorthCap University in Gurugram, Haryana in 2019.
