John McCallum Marshall Shaw was a Scottish and Indophile businessman. He was the husband of the popular Indian businesswoman, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw. He was suffering from cancer, and on 24 October 2022, he passed away at a private hospital in Bengaluru.

Reportedly, in 1998, John Shaw introduced 2 million dollars to buy the outstanding Biocon shares from ICI. Thereafter, he and Kiran Mazumdar Shah married each other. Soon, John Shaw took early retirement from his position as chairman at a leading textiles MNC Madura Coats, where he was working as Chairman and Managing Director till 1999.

In 1999, John Shaw buy back Unilever’s stake in Biocon and helped his wife Kiran Mazumdar in extending her business. At the same time, FMCG wanted to sell the shares of the company to a third party. During his tenure at Biocon, he worked as a foreign promoter and member of the advisory board for many subsidiaries of Biocon Group. He served as the Vice-Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Biocon, a Bengaluru-headquartered biopharmaceutical company for more than twenty-two years.
