Geetika Srivastava

Geetika Srivastava is 2005 batch Indian Foreign Services (IFS) officer. She hit the headlines in August 2023 after she was appointed the Chargé d’affaires of the Indian High Commission in Pakistan, becoming the first woman officer to lead the Indian mission in Pakistan.

Geetika Srivastava was born in Uttar Pradesh, India. After completing her schooling, she enrolled at the Shiv Harsh Kisan P.G. College in Basti, Uttar Pradesh, where she completed graduation in 2001 with maths, economics, and computers as subjects. Thereafter, she reported at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. She has attended numerous courses related to foreign services at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service.

Career

In August 2007, Geetika Srivastava was sent to China, where she served as third secretary in the Indian Embassy in Beijing till May 2009. She was appointed as under-secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs in June 2009; she held the post till May 2012. She became deputy passport officer at the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Kolkata in May 2012. Thereafter, she was posted to New Delhi, where she held the position of joint secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. She was later appointed director of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) Division of the MEA in New Delhi.

Afterwards, she was posted as joint secretary of the Indo-Pacific division of the MEA. In August 2023, she was selected to replace M. Suresh Kumar as the Chargé d’affaires in the Indian High Commission in Pakistan. As per sources, her appointment came at a point when the relations between India and Pakistan were downgraded due to the removal of Article 370 in Kashmir.

  • Geetika Srivastava is fluent in speaking and writing Mandarin, English, and Hindi. In an interview, Geetika revealed that she opted to learn Mandarin as part of her foreign language training.
  • In 2016, she gave a presentation on “Confronting Khalistanis In Ontario” at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service.
