While talking about his parents in an interview, he said,

My parents were raised post-war-ish with the sexual revolution of 1968, so their values were really messed up between a complete letting go and an almost Calvinist sense of duty.”

He is the only child of his parents.

Relationships, Wife & Children

In the 1990s, he met the famous British model Stella Tennant, while he was working as a photographer and assisting her in a modelling shoot in New York. Soon they became friends and fell in love with each other. On 22 June 1999 (Tuesday), the couple got married in a private ceremony at small parish church of Oxnam, Scotland in the presence of 75 guests only. By the time they got married, their first child Marcel was nine months old.

The couple has four children Marcel (first child), Cecily (second child), Jasmine (third child), and Iris (fourth child).

After almost two decades of their marriage, in August 2020, the couple announced that they had separated in 2019. In an interview, David said,

There’s nothing better than growing old together. And it’s very easy to destroy something.”

On Tuesday, December 22, 2020, Stella took her last breath at the age of 50. ^[3]Vogue

Career

He started his career as a color grader in a lab after attending a film school for a few months. Later, in a coffee shop, he met the famous Peruvian fashion photographer Mario Testino, who asked David to work as a model for him. David while replying to him, said,

I don’t know, I must have been tanned at the time. Look, you know, I’m not really interested in being in front of the camera, but I really need a job.”

Then Mario decided to hire David as an assistant photographer. After working with the ace fashion photographers Mario Testino and Paolo Roversi for a few years, David decided to quit his job as a photographer and started working as an osteopath. In an interview, David said,

I worked Testino and Paolo Roversi for years, and became a successful photographer. I was never like Juergen Teller or David Sims, those guys who had a real understanding of what they were interested in. I was just surviving, really. Although it was never conscious at the time, I think it was a safe way of learning about the world.”

He owns an osteopathy clinic ‘Soma Osteopathy’ in 21 Queen Charlotte Street, Edinburgh.
