Journalism
Avinash Das has worked with various well-known Indian media houses as a columnist. After completing his higher studies, he joined Prabhat Khabar, a daily newspaper as its resident editor and also worked for its Patna and Deoghar’s release as a proofreader. Later, he joined NDTV India as an Output Editor.
He then worked with Dainik Bhaskar as its editorial manager. Thereafter, he joined a community television show, Satyamev Jayate and worked as its Senior Correspondent for some time.
Film
In 2013, he participated in the Cine Bahastalab program organised in Delhi. He ventured into the Hindi film industry on 24 March 2017 after he released his directorial debut Hindi film Anaarkali of Aarah, which starred Swara Bhaskar, Sanjay Mishra, and Pankaj Tripathi.

In 2020, he directed the Netflix series ‘She.’ In the following year, he released the Zee5 movie “Raat Baaki Hai.”

Controversy
In July 2022, he attracted controversy when he was arrested by the Mumbai police for posting a controversial picture of Amit Shah with IAS officer Pooja Singhal, who was detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case in May 2022, on his Facebook page. A Police Sub Inspector (PSI) with the crime branch filed an FIR against Avinash at the Ahmedabad Police’s Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on 13 May 2022 for publicising a photograph, which was clicked in 2017 during a public event in Ranchi. It was stated in the FIR that the picture was shared by Avinash Das to defame Amit Shah. It reported,
A five-year-old photo of Amit Shah on May 8, 2022, to allegedly mislead people and defame the reputation of Shah.”
He was also booked for insulting the Indian national flag in the same FIR. He was accused of posting a photograph of a woman who was wearing a tricolour on his Facebook account. The Mumbai police booked him under IPC section 469 (forgery), section 67 of the IT Act and sections of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 and arrested him in July 2022.
