Appurv Gupta is an Indian stand-up comedian, YouTuber, and entrepreneur who was listed in Forbes India Celebrity 100 Nominees List for 2015. He is considered as one of the pioneers of the Hindi language stand-ups in India.

Career

Since the beginning of his course, Appurv had realised that he didn’t want to pursue a career in engineering, therefore he began seeking an alternative career option. In an interview, he said,

In the first year itself, I had realised that engineering is not my cup of tea, but I completed my studies as my parents wanted me to.”

While he was exploring different professions, his brother advised him to join a non-profit public speaking organization called Toastmasters International, wherein people from all age groups come together to teach and practice public speaking techniques. While remembering his days at Toastmasters, he said,

I started performing at the Toastmasters Club. Over the next three years, I gave a number of performances. Some people told me I was funny, which encouraged me. I tried my hand at humorous speeches. Then someone told me that I should try my hand at stand-up comedy.”

While working with Toastmasters International, he performed around 1000 stage shows, inaugurated clubs in different locations, took many leadership roles. Although after completing his graduation Appurv received various job offers from the top MNCs, he decided to venture into the stand-up comedy business. Later, he performed around 700 shows which include shows at some top IT companies like Microsoft, Adobe, American Express, and Airtel. In 2014, he came into the limelight with his first solo show ‘AppurView-Laugh With an Engineer’ which was telecasted on NDTV Prime in the show, The Rising Stars of Comedy with Appurv Gupta.

Thereafter, he performed various other solo shows like ‘RelationShip Or RelationShit’ and ‘Laugh with an Engineer 2.0,’ ‘Kaafi Wild Hai,’ etc. On 15 January 2016, Appurv started the web series ‘Mudde Ki Baat’ in which he humorously presents his views on the topics such as startups in India, cricket, Bollywood, and Chetan Bhagat.

In 2019, Appurv Gupta opened a Central Club at Akshara Theatre, New Delhi, where open mics, as well as full-fledged shows, are organised. He has earned over 400,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel who extensively tours around India and abroad to perform his slow shows.
