Premgi made his debut with the film Punnagai Poove in 2003.

In 2006, he embraced his inaugural acting role as the main lead’s friend in Silambarasan’s Vallavan. This was succeeded by his role in his brother Venkat Prabhu’s first directorial venture, Chennai 600028 (2007), where he played the role of Seenu. The film emerged as the most notable summer blockbuster of the year, establishing Premgi as a comedy actor. He collaborated with his brother once more in their next project, Saroja, receiving acclaim for playing the role of Ganesh Kumar. He took the main role in Venkat Prabhu’s film Goa (2010) and went on to appear in Mankatha (2011) and Settai (2013). Premgi has appeared in other films like Santosh Subramaniam (2008) as Sekhar, Onbadhule Guru (2013) as Charles, Tamizh Padam 2 (2018), Kasada Thapara (2021) as Bala, and Custody (2023) as Prem.

In 2023, he became well-known for playing the role of Pradeep in the film Sathiya Sothanai. The announcement for his project Thalapathy 68, scheduled for release in 2024, was made in 2023. In 1997, Premgi ventured into directing in the film industry with a project titled “Wanted,” which starred Venkat Prabhu and S. P. B. Charan. Despite having Yuvan Shankar Raja as the music composer and comedians Gangai Amaren and S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, the film remained unfinished. In 2005, he entered independent music direction with the movie Gnabagam Varuthe, which starred his brother. After that, he contributed to the music of Agathiyan’s Nenjathai Killathe and Thozha, in which he also had a significant role. He worked as a music director on songs for films like Nenjathai Killadhe (2008), Adhe Neram Adhe Idam (2009), Maanga (2015), RK Nagar (2019), and Manmadha Leelai (2022).

Amaren and singer Suresh Peters came together to produce a song called “The One Anthem,” dedicated to the iconic Michael Jackson.

Music Composer

Premgi made his debut as a music composer with the song Niyabagam Varuthe in 2007. At the beginning of his career, he concentrated on music composition. He started as an assistant to film music composer Yuvan Shankar Raja, later branching into playback singing. Initially, his singing roles mostly included managing rap portions in Yuvan Shankar Raja’s compositions and later extended his collaboration with other music composers. Alongside his work with Yuvan Shankar Raja, he also took on remixing songs for certain soundtrack albums, commencing with the song “Loosu Penne” from the film Vallavan. He has composed other songs for films including Adhe Neram Adhe Idam (2009), Ennamo Nadakkudhu (2014), Zombie (2019), Kutty Story (2021), and Manmadha Leelai (2022).

Apart from film music, he composed for an episode titled “Planet Galatta II – Adra Sakkae” on the Singaporean satellite channel “Mediacorp Vasantham.”

He made his singing debut with the song Kaalathukku Etta Gana in 1998. He has sung songs like “Andhra Khiladi Vidyardhi” for the film Vidyardhi (2004), “Orampo Naina” for the film Azhagai Irukkirai Bayamai Irukkirathu (2006), “Yenno Yenno” for the film Nenu Meeku Telusa?
