His father’s name was K. Mutyala Reddy. He worked at Hindustan Zinc Limited. His mother’s name was Manasa Jyostna. His sister’s name was Sharmila Reddy.

His father, K. Mutyala Reddy, supported Nitish’s dream to become a cricketer from a young age. Later, Mutyala was given a transfer to Udaipur, Rajasthan; however, his father declined the offer and quit his job at Hindustan Zinc Limited. In an interview, the cricketer revealed that his father left his job to ensure the cricketer received proper training at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, as Mutyala was not convinced about the cricket facilities and the training quality at Udaipur, Rajasthan. Nitish Kumar Reddy has represented Andhra Under-14, Andhra Under-16, Andhra Under-19 B, Andhra Under-19, India Under-19 Green, India Under-19 A, Andhra, and Godavari Titans at the domestic level. He started his cricketing journey with various coaching camps organised by the VDCA. In 2015, the cricketer was part of the Andhra Under-14 team, which participated in the 2015-2016 season of the South Zone Inter State Under-14 Tournament. In the opening match on 6 January 2016, he scored 76 runs from 163 balls against the Tamil Nadu Under-14, marking his highest score in the tournament. He scored 152 runs at an average of 38.00, including two half-centuries from four matches in the 2015-2016 South Zone Inter State Under-14 Tournament.

In 2017, he was named to the Andhra Under-16 team for the 2017-2018 Vijay Merchant Trophy (South Zone). Reddy scored 301 runs from 407 balls and took a wicket against the Tamil Nadu Under-16 in the opening match in December 2017. On 9 January 2018, the cricketer was named to the playing eleven of the Andhra Under-16 team against the Nagaland Under-16 team for the pre-quarterfinal of the Vijay Merchant Trophy. Nitish took a three-wicket haul in both innings and scored 441 runs from 336 balls; Andhra won the match by innings and 678 runs.

Andhra faced the Madhya Pradesh Under-16 team in the quarter-final on 14 January 2018, and he took a five-wicket haul; however, he struggled with his batting performance and was dismissed on a duck in the first innings. In the second innings, he scored eight runs; however, Madhya Pradesh won the match by an innings and 81 runs. The cricketer took 26 wickets in the tournament, including two five-wicket hauls. He was the top scorer with 1237 runs at an average of 176.71, including four centuries and two half-centuries in the Vijay Merchant Trophy from seven matches between 1 December 2017 and 15 January 2018.

Nitish was part of the India Under-19 B team, which participated in the 2018-2019 Quadrangular Under-19 Tournament in September 2018. In his debut match for the India Under-19 B team on 14 September 2018, he took two wickets at an economy of 5.29 and scored two runs against Afghanistan Under-19. On 18 September 2018, he was named to the playing eleven for the final against India Under-19 A; he scored eight runs from 13 balls. India Under-19 B defeated India Under-19 A by ten runs and lifted the trophy. Reddy played seven matches in the 2022-2023 Vijay Hazare Trophy; he scored 130 runs and took seven wickets. In 2022, Nitish was named to the Andhra team, which participated in the 2022-2023 Ranji Trophy. On 20 December 2022, he took a four-wicket haul against Tamil Nadu in the group stage match of the tournament. Nitish scored 160 runs with an average of 11.42, and took 25 wickets with an average of 26.12 from eight matches between 13 December 2022 and 31 January 2023 in the Ranji Trophy, and was the third-highest wicket-taker for Andhra in the season.

In December 2022, he was signed by the Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League. The cricketer made his debut against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on 18 May 2023; he bowled two overs at an economy of 9.50.

Three days later, Reddy was named to the playing eleven for Sunrisers Hyderabad’s last match of the season against the Mumbai Indians. He bowled three overs at an economy of 11.67; he won the Herbalife Active Catch of the Match award for his catch which dismissed Rohit Sharma.
