Malla Reddy has several businesses spread in the education, health, and technology sectors. He is the founder-chairman of Malla Reddy Narayana Multispeciality Hospital which was commissioned in 2010. He established Malla Reddy Engineering College, Hyderabad in 2002, Malla Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad in 2012, and Malla Reddy University, Hyderabad (MRUH) in 2020. Politician

Telugu Desam Party (TDP)

Malla Reddy started his political career by joining N. Chandrababu Naidu’s party, Telugu Desam Party (TDP), on 19 March 2014. He won the 2014 General elections from the Malkajgiri constituency of Telangana and became a first-time Member of Parliament (MP) in the 16th Lok Sabha; he was the only TDP MP in Telangana. He quit as an MP on 14 December 2018.

Malla Reddy contested and won the 2023 Telangana Legislative Assembly elections from the Medchal constituency on a ticket from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi; he won the election with a margin of 33,419 votes.

Income Tax Raids

On 22 November 2023, around 50 teams of I-T (Income Tax) officials raided the residences of Malla Reddy, his sons, Mahender Reddy and Bhadra Reddy, son-in-law Marri Rajasekhar Reddy, relative Praveen Reddy, and a few of his close aides including Trishul Reddy, Raghunath Reddy and Santosh Reddy in Hyderabad and neighbouring areas. Fake claims about educational qualifications, age, and income

Before the 2023 Telangana Legislative elections, a counter affidavit was filed by Kandadi Anji Reddy, a resident of Medchal, against Malla Reddy’s election affidavit in the Election Commission of India (ECI). Anji claimed that Malla has given multiple fake declarations about his educational qualifications in election affidavits of different elections. Anji claimed that before the 2014 General elections, Malla Reddy declared in his affidavit that he passed intermediate (12th standard) at the Government Junior College, Patny, Secunderabad in 1973. Anji further claimed that Malla Reddy and his wife are serving as chancellors of Malla Reddy University and are entitled to salaries and assets; however, Malla has not declared income from the university in his affidavit. ‘Animal’ film pre-release event

On 27 November 2023, a pre-release event was organised for the Bollywood film Animal which features Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, and Anil Kapoor in lead roles. During the event, Malla Reddy said that Telugu people would rule Bollywood and Hollywood within 5 years and Ranbir Kapoor would also shift to Hyderabad within one year. Indian actor Mahesh Babu and filmmaker SS Rajamouli were also present at the event.

 

Reddy’s statement caused anger among the fans of Bollywood and Ranbir Kapoor. Many people later took to Twitter and criticised Reddy for his statement.
