L’Algérino, whose real name is Samir Djoghlal, was born Saturday, 2 May 1981 (age 43 years old; as of 2024) in Marseille, France. His zodiac sign is Taurus. He started rapping at the young age of 11. He grew up in the Felix Pyat neighborhood of Marseille.

As a childhood friend of JUL, he was found by the rapper Akhenaton, a member of the IAM group, in 2001. Akhenaton signed him to his 361 Recordz label, and there he released his first album “Les derniers seront les premiers” in June 2005. He spent some time with the groups ‘B-Vice Junior’ and ’45 Niggaz’, and made independent albums with them. In the early days, Hichem Gombra and Hafid Fédaouche (HF Production) produced Algérino’s work. He first caught attention with his two-title maxi “T’sais c’est qui qui cause?” He became well-known after featuring on Psy 4 de la Rime’s album “Block Party”. In 2004, L’Algérino was discovered by Akhenaton of IAM. He joined Akhenaton’s label, 361 Records; his first album, “Les derniers seront les premiers”, was released in 2005 by Naïve Records.

In 2007, he released the album “Mentalité pirate”, which became popular with songs like “L’envie de vaincre”, “Fleur fanée”, and “Entre deux flammes”. His third album, “Effet miroir”, came out in March 2010, followed by his fourth, “C’est correct”, in 2011. His next album was released in 2014, and his sixth, “Oriental Dream”, came out in October 2015 with Black Pearl Music. His seventh album, “Banderas”, was released in October 2016. In May 2017, he put out the single “Les menottes (Tching Tchang Tchong).” The 2018 song “Va Bene” from the Taxi 5 soundtrack was released on YouTube on March 23, 2018. It reached number 2 on the French SNEP charts.

Controversies

In July 2023, a concert by L’Algérino scheduled to take place in Algiers was abruptly canceled, causing confusion and disappointment among his fans. Rumors circulated about the potential surprise participation of Soolking in the concert, which contributed to the controversy. L’Algérino later explained the situation to his fans, expressing his disappointment and clarifying that the cancellation was out of his control. He shared his regret over the situation on social media, acknowledging the fans who had traveled long distances and the families who were eagerly awaiting the concert.
