Karanvir Singh is considered to be a key member of Babbar Khalsa International, one of the oldest and most organised Khalistan militant organisations based in Lahore, Pakistan. The organisation was formed in 1970 following conflicts between two communities. It has been banned in a few countries like India, Britain, Canada, The European Union, Japan, Malaysia, and America. The organisation is headed by Wadhwa Singh. According to some sources, Karanvir Singh serves as the right-hand man to Wadhwa Singh and Harvinder Singh Rinda. Some other wanted criminals associated with Babbar Khalsa International include Lakhbir Singh Sandhu, Harvinder Singh Rinda, Parminder Singh Khaira, Satbir Singh, and Yadvinder Singh. Babbar Khalsa International has been accused of carrying out terrorist activities by smuggling weapons and drugs into Punjab, and also by extorting money from businessmen and many other well-known individuals, by the National Investigation Agency.

On 25 September 2023, the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) issued a Red Corner Notice against Karanvir Singh, for allegedly hiding in Pakistan after committing criminal offences in India. A Red Corner Notice is a request to law enforcement of Interpol’s member countries to locate and briefly hold a person until they can be extradited, surrendered, or dealt with through a legal process.
