Meeting with Sonali Phogat
Soon after the murder of former BJP leader Sonali Phogat in Goa, the names of her murderers Sukhwinder Wasi and Sudhir Sangwan started floating on various media channels in August 2022. According to some media sources, Sukhwinder Wasi and Sudhir Sangwan entered Phogat’s team as ground workers during the Adampur election in Haryana in 2019 when she contested the Haryana Assembly elections on the ticket of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Sudhir Sangwan was appointed as her personal assistant and manager soon after the completion of the elections. Later, Sukhwinder Wasi also started working under her.

Statement by Sonali’s Brother
Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Wasi were blackmailing Sonali and also seized her house. Sudhir Sangwan started controlling Sonali Phogat in every possible way and hired Sukhwinder Wasi to look after her professional matters. All of her old employees were fired, and Sudhir replaced them with new ones.

- In a statement recorded by the Goa police, Sonali’s brother stated that before her death she talked to her family members over the phone and told them that Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Wasi raped her three years ago and recorded a videotape of the same. Since then, both of them were blackmailing her, and she was being tortured by the same. Rinku Dhaka said,
She said he was also involved in the theft at her house and that she will take action against him after coming to Hisar. She told Aman that Sangwan and Sukhwinder can do anything with her. The phone got disconnected after that.”

- On 26 August 2022, Goa police stated in a media conference that Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Wasi confessed their crime and mentioned in their statement that they intentionally mixed some obnoxious substance into the victim’s drink. Goa police IGP Omvir Singh Bishnoi said,
On the basis of CCTV footage, it was seen that accused Sudhir Sangwan & his associate Sukhwinder Singh were partying with the deceased at a club. A video establishes that one of them forcefully made the victim consume a substance.”
