Hardwar Dubey

Hardwar Dubey (1949-2023) was an Indian politician associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was a sitting Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh. He served as the Minister of State for Finance in the Government of Uttar Pradesh from 24 June 1991 to 6 December 1992. He passed away on 26 June 2023 due to prolonged illness at Fortis Hospital in Delhi.

Career

In 1983, Hardwar Dubey assumed the position of the minister of the metropolitan unit. During the national convention of the BJP held at Kothi Meena Bazar Maidan, he served as the president of the metropolis.

In a remarkable feat, he contested the elections for the first time in 1989, securing victory on the cantonment (Uttar Pradesh) seat, which had been under the Congress’ control since independence. Recognizing his capabilities, the party entrusted him with another opportunity in the 1991 elections, and he delivered as anticipated. Following his second victory, he was appointed as the Minister of State for Institutional Finance in the state. However, due to controversies, he had to resign from the ministerial post within a year.

Subsequently, the dynamics shifted, and he faced challenges in displaying his electoral strength. Nonetheless, his influence within the organization remained steadfast. In 2005, he contested a by-election from the Kheragarh assembly constituency but experienced defeat. Additionally, he had previously faced a loss in the Agra-Firozabad Legislative Council elections.

In 2011, he assumed the role of State Spokesperson, and in 2013, he was appointed as the State Vice President. On 26 November 2020, Hardwar Dubey was elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh.

Death

Hardwar Dubey passed away from a prolonged illness at 4:30 am on 26 June 2023 at Fortis Hospital in Delhi. He was admitted to the hospital a night before his demise after he complained of a sudden pain in his chest. He was 74 years old at the time of his death.
