Dilip Walse Patil

Dilip Walse Patil is an Indian politician and a leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). He is a seven-time member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Ambegaon and has been winning from the constituency since 1990 consecutively. Dilip was appointed as the Home Minister of Maharashtra in April 2021 after the former Home Minister, Anil Deshmukh, resigned from the post amid corruption charges against him.

Dilip Walse Patil was born on Tuesday, 30 October 1956 (age 64 years; as of 2020) in Nirgudsar village, Pune, Maharashtra. His full name is Dilip Dattatray Walse Patil, while his zodiac sign is Scorpio. [1]My Neta Patil did his schooling from a district council school in his village Nirgudsar. Career

Dilip embarked on his political career in 1990 by successfully contesting the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election from the Ambegaon constituency on the ticket of the Indian National Congress (INC). He has remained successful in retaining the Ambegaon seat in all the legislative elections that have been held since then.

Dilip, being a loyalist of Sharad Pawar, left the Indian National Congress and subsequently sided with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) formed by Sharad Pawar in May 1999. Since the inception of NCP, Dilip has stayed as a core member of NCP’s decision-making committee and is seen as a prominent leader of Sharad Pawar-led NCP.

In 2009, Dilip was appointed as the speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He held the position of speaker from 2009 to 2014.

  • Reportedly, he was a prime contender for the post of Home Minister during the formation of the Shiv Sena-Nationalist Congress Party-Congress Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government; however, he had refused to chair the post, citing health issues. Patil is diabetic and has heart complications as well.
