Darvesh Singh was a lawyer from Uttar Pradesh. She was the President of the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh. She was shot down by another lawyer just two days after she was appointed as the President of the BAR Council on 12 June 2019.

Darvesh Singh was born in 1981 (age 38 years; at the time of death) in Etah, Uttar Pradesh. Her full name was Darvesh Singh Yadav. She did her schooling from a local school of Etah, UP. She pursued Bachelor of Laws from the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Agra (now Agra University). She started practising law in the year 2004 and used to share an office with Manish Babu Sharma. Manish was her senior and was in the same college as her.

Darvesh Singh Yadav belonged to the Other Backward Caste (OBC). She was from Etah, UP and her ancestral village was Chandpur in UP. Her parents had passed away when she was a teenager. Her father was a retired police officer of UP Police. Her mother was a Sub-Inspector in UP Police. She had a younger brother, and a younger sister, Kanchan. Her younger sister was offered a job, as a Sub-Inspector in UP Police after her mother passed away while she was on duty. Kanchan had completed her police training in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, just three days before Darvesh was elected as the President of the Bar Council.

Career

Darvesh started her career by practising law in Etah with her senior Manish Babu Sharma. She worked there for 5 years, then she moved to Agra in 2009. She rose up very swiftly in her career. In 2014, she was elected as the Vice-President of the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh; she was the first woman ever to be elected as the Vice-President of the UP Bar Council.

Many people stated that Darvesh was a very kind-hearted person. She took care of people, attended funerals of the people she knew, paid a visit to the functions where she was invited, and always greeted everyone with a smile. She desired to become the President of the Bar Council in 2019, and for that, she had to convince everyone in the council to elect her. She had also offered many changes and improvements to the existing system. She had promised to set up libraries across UP for members of the Bar Council. She wanted to offer compensation for the family members of advocates who died in accidents and medical expenses for sick advocates. She also promised chambers for junior advocates.

On 10 June 2019, she was elected as the President of the UP Bar Council. She was in a tie with another lawyer and it was decided that they would alternate the responsibility of the President every six months. She was set to be the President first. She was appreciated and lauded from all over India for being the first woman ever to become the President of the UP Bar Council.

Death

On 12 June 2019, Darvesh Singh was visiting the civil court of Agra where she was supposed to be felicitated for being elected as the President. Her longtime aide, Manish Babu Sharma, was also present there. Manish and Darvesh were not talking to each other for the past 6 months due to increasing differences between them. Senior lawyer Arvind Mishra was happy to see Manish; as he thought he was there to congratulate her and bury their differences.

After meeting with junior advocates and other members of the Agra civil court, Darvesh headed to the chambers of senior advocate Arvind Mishra, where her felicitation ceremony was to be held. Darvesh and Manish were present in his chamber along with 6-7 advocates. Darvesh and Manish started to argue when suddenly Manish pulled out his gun and shot Darvesh 3 times. Darvesh shot two bullets in her chest and one on her head. Everyone was in shock and before realised what had happened, Manish shot himself. They were taken to the Pushpanjali Hospital, where Darvesh was announced brought dead. Manish was in critical condition and police waited for him to get better; as they wanted to question him. The mortal remains were sent back to Etah, to her home to be cremated.
