Ayyappa P. Sharma’s father, Pudipeddi Jogeswara Sarma (commonly known as P. J. Sarma), was an Indian film dubbing artist, actor, and writer, who predominantly worked in the Telugu film industry. P. J. Sarma also worked in the Tamil and Kannada film industries. At the age of 81, P. J. Sarma died due to a heart attack on 14 December 2014. His mother, Krishna Jyothi Pudipeddi, worked as an actress in the Telugu and Kannada film industries. She is known for appearing in the Kannada films Sri Krishna Garudi (1958) and Makkala Rajya (1960), sharing the screen with the acclaimed Kannada actor Dr Rajkumar.

Born and raised in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, Ayyappa’s father, P. J. Sarma, moved to Madras (now Chennai) in 1955 to build a career in the entertainment industry. Krishna Jyothi hails from Bagepalli, Karnataka. [2]Deccan Herald In an interview, Ayyappa’s brother Ravi Shankar talked about his parents and said,

My father was a struggling actor but my mother was at the peak of her career when they fell in love and got married in 1960. She gave up her career when she was in the family way.”

Ayyappa has two brothers, Pudipeddi Sai Kumar (commonly known as P. Sai Kumar) and Pudipeddi Ravi Shankar (commonly known as P. Ravi Shankar). Both of them work as dubbing artists, actors, directors, and writers in the Kannada, Telugu, and Tamil film industries. Ayyappa has two sisters, Kamala Narayan and Priya Karthikeyan.

Career

Scriptwriting and Direction

In 1996, he ventured into the entertainment industry as a writer and film director with the Kannada film ‘Aayudha.’

In 1997, he started working as a director at Jyothi Movie Makers in Hyderabad; he worked there for 10 months. In 1998, he produced and directed the Nandi Award-winning Telugu film ‘Eswar Allah.’ Ayyappa worked as a director for the Kannada films Durgada Huli (2000), Veera (2013), and Varadhanayaka (2013).

From 2006 to 2007, he held the position of Executive Vice President at Movie Artists Association, Hyderabad. From May 2008 to November 2009, he worked as a director at Sonopix Productions Private Ltd, where he directed numerous TV serials. For a long time, he was also associated as a director with Eagle Entertainers in Chennai.

Acting

In 2003, he made his acting debut with the Kannada romantic-action drama film ‘Partha’ in which he played the role of Kitty.

Other Kannada films in which he appeared include Gharshane (2014), Master Piece (2015), and Tiger Galli (2017). In 2005, he made his debut in the Telugu film industry with the action film ‘Slokam.’

Other Telugu films in which he appeared include Lacchimdeviki O Lekkundi (2016) and Aravindha Sametha Veera Raghava (2018). He came into the limelight with the popular pan-India film sequels K.G.F: Chapter 1 (2018) and K.G.F: Chapter 2 (2022) in which he played the role of Vanaram. The film follows a young man named Rocky, who seeks power and wealth in order to fulfil a promise to his dying mother. As the story unfolds, Rocky is assigned the task of assassinating the heir of Kolar Gold Fields, Garuda. In the film, Vanaram is Garuda’s commander-cum-body guard.
