Ashish Sakharkar

Ashish Sakharkar (1979-2023) was an Indian bodybuilder who won many bodybuilding competitions. He passed away in July 2023 due to an illness.

Ashish Sakharkar was born on Sunday, 18 November 1979 (age 43 years; at the time of death) in Mumbai, Maharashtra. His zodiac sign is Scorpio. He did his schooling at Hill Grange High School, Mumbai. He later pursued a Bachelor of Commerce degree at Sydenham College of Commerce & Economics, Mumbai. While studying in college, he got interested in bodybuilding due to his father who was also a bodybuilder. His wife, Runali Sakharkar, is a dietitian. Ashish is survived by two sons; one of them is named Ayush.

Career

Competitions

He started participating in the bodybuilding competition in 1999 by participating in the local amateur YMCA event. He had been working out only for six months at that time; however, he won the gold medal in the Men’s novice category. This win led him to become more dedicated towards bodybuilding. He went on to win Mr Maharashtra and later won Mr India (Federation Cup) four times.

He later won a Gold medal in IFBB European Championship, a Silver medal in IFBB Mr Asia Championship, a Silver and Bronze medal in IFBB Mr Universe Championship and was ranked 7th in Amateur Mr Olympia Championship. He mostly competed in the 80 kg weight category in bodybuilding competitions. He competed in the 2013 Sheru Classic Competition; however, he failed to win any medal.

Diet

While preparing for a bodybuilding competition in 2011, he revealed that his daily diet included 50 eggs, 1 kg chicken, 1 kg fish, and a half kg of dry fruits. He said that he divided his diet into four parts throughout the day to maintain his nutritional demands.

Workout

He preferred to workout two times every day, including one workout in the morning and one in the evening. He exercised mostly using free weights with barbells and dumbbells. He also collaborated with various renowned IFBB bodybuilders during his training.

 

Gym Trainer

In addition to his own workout, Ashish worked as a gym trainer at various gyms. In April 2021, he opened his own gym named Midtown Fitness in Mumbai.

He was also awarded the Shiv Chhatrapati Award by the Maharashtra government.

Death

Ashish Sakharkar passed away on 19 July 2023 after battling an illness for a week. One week before his death, he was admitted to a hospital in South Mumbai after complaining of fever and illness.
