Angus Cloud (1998–2023) was an American actor best known for playing the role of Fezco in the HBO TV series Euphoria. He played small roles in the independent films North Hollywood (2021) and The Line (2023). Cloud died on July 31, 2023, at his family’s home in Oakland, California.

Angus Cloud was born as Conor Angus Cloud Hickey ^[1]Independent.ie on July 10, 1998 (age 25 years; at the time of death) in Oakland, California. His zodiac sign is Cancer.

Growing up, he would build the sets and work on lighting and sound for his high school’s theater department. He attended the prestigious Oakland School for the Arts in California. Interestingly, he didn’t study acting there instead his focus was on technical theater. Later, he moved to New York on a whim to visit his friends and started living in Bushwick. Cloud pursued various odd jobs before becoming an actor. He worked at the Oakland Whole Foods for years. In an interview, while talking about the same he said,

I used to love giving out free samples to everybody — free sample, free sample! I would make sandwiches for the people, and then I’d make sandwiches for the kitchen.”

In 2018, Cloud stumbled upon a chance to act when he was discovered by Euphoria casting director Jennifer Venditti while he was walking down Manhattan Street in New York City. At that time, he was working at Woodlands restaurant close to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Then, he moved to Los Angeles to shoot for the show. Later, his management set him up with acting classes. They even sent him to a public class taught by Shia LaBeouf. ^[2]GQ

Television/OTT

In 2019, Cloud made his acting debut with the American teen drama series Euphoria in which he played the role of a local drug dealer Fezco “Fez” O’Neill. The hit HBO coming-of-age drama, starring popular actors like Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, and Dominic Fike, follows the life of a group of teenagers as they navigate love, school, drugs, and life. Cloud also appeared in the second season of the show in 2022.

In 2019, he made an appearance on the American TV show The Perfect Women.

Film

He made his film debut with the comedy-drama film North Hollywood (2021) in which he played the role of Walker.

In 2023, he played the role of Robert DeWitt in the American drama film The Line. His films ‘Freaky Tales’ and ‘Your Lucky Day’ were released posthumously. He was also cast in a Universal Monsters film which was still in production at the time of his death.

Death

Cloud died at his family’s home in Oakland, California on July 31, 2023, at the age of 25. The cause of his death was unknown. Reportedly, the Oakland Fire Department received a 911 call from Cloud’s mother reporting a “possible overdose” at around 11:30 am on July 31. She claimed that Cloud did not have a pulse. Cloud was pronounced dead at the scene when paramedics arrived. His family revealed that Cloud was in mourning after the death of his father in the previous week. ^[4]The New York Times They said,

Last week he buried his father and intensely struggled with this loss…The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend. Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence.”

• Angus Cloud’s father, Conor Hickey, played rugby for the Ashbourne Rugby Club in the 1980s.

• In an interview, he revealed that he was planning to move to Ireland before his big break in Euphoria. Cloud randomly approached to audition for the role while walking down Manhattan Street in New York City. He was scouted by Euphoria casting director Jennifer Venditti, who asked him to come in to read for a new TV series. At first, he thought that it was a scam. Despite his lack of acting experience, he landed the part.

• Cloud faced the camera for the first time in the scene in which Fez is established as the gas station-dwelling dealer to the teenage drug addict Rue (played by Zendaya).
