His mother’s name is Kiran Agarwal; she is an author, poet, entrepreneur, founder of WOKA Creations, and Chairperson of Hindustan Zinc Limited. Agnivesh has a sister named Priya Agarwal Hebbar who is the co-founder and trustee of the Youth Organization in Defence of Animals, director of Vedanta Resources, and an Electronic Music Producer.

Agnivesh Agarwal, Kolkata vs Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, 2017
On 30 June 2014, an order was issued by the Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals) in which it was claimed that Agnivesh had not disclosed Rs.2,40,000 worth of additional income that he earned between 2009-10. Thereafter, Agnivesh filed litigation in a tribunal court in which he rejected the IT Department’s claims and said that the department did not adequately consider his response to the notice. The department rejected his claims in the litigation. However, the tribunal court sided with Agnivesh which opined that the department’s actions were arbitrary and unjust.
