Yugendran

Yugendran, also known as Yugendran Vasudevan, is an Indian Singaporean actor, singer, host, and music director. He has lent his lent his voice to many in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam songs. In 2023, he participated in the Tamil version of the reality TV show ‘Bigg Boss’ season 7, which aired on Star Vijay and streamed on Disney+ Hotstar.

Parents & Siblings

His father, Malaysia Vasudevan, was a famous Tamil playback singer and actor of Malaysian origin, who died on 20 February 2011. His mother’s name is Usha. He has two sisters named Pavithra and Prashanthini, a Tamil playback singer.

Wife & Children

In 1999, Yugendran performed at the launch of a Tamil radio station in Sri Lanka named ‘Swarna Oli,’ where he met Hayma Malini. On 29 November 1999, he got married to Hayma Malini, a Singaporean RJ host. The couple has three sons named Visashan Naarayan Yugendran, Kishan Naarayan Yugendran, and Darshan Naarayan Yugendran.

Career

Music

Singer

When he was a teenager, Yugendran began performing alongside his father at stage shows, including both in India and overseas locations. He continued singing, even singing female parts in duets with his father, until Yugendran was 14. After his voice changed, he gave solo performances in countries like Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, and the United States, all before making a name for himself as a playback singer.

In 1987, he made his playback singing debut with the song ‘Senthoora Poove’ from the Tamil film ‘Uzhavan Magan.’

In 2002, he lent his voice to the song ‘Aadi Aadi Vamma’ from the Telugu film ‘Indra.’ He has sung several Tamil songs including ‘Kalayanamthan Katti’ from the Tamil film ‘Saamy’ (2003), ‘Sudumvarai Neruppu’ from the Tamil film ‘Jananam’ (2004), and ‘Adida! Nayaandiya’ from the Tamil film ‘Goa’ (2010).

Yugendran was initially supposed to debut with the Tamil film ‘Mouname,’ directed by Raja Kantheeban, in 1998. Later, the project was shelved, and he was unable to make his acting debut at that time. He has been featured in many Tamil films including ‘Amirtham’ (2006), ‘Mudhal Kanave’ (2007), ‘Newtonin Moondram Vidhi’ (2009), and ‘Vizha’ (2013). He played the lead role in the 2012 Tamil language Singaporean film ‘Kathalaanain.’

Television

Apart from acting in films, he has acted in many Tamil TV shows including Sun TV’s ‘Kolangal’ (2003), ‘Megala’ (2007), and ‘Idhayam’ (2009). He has also appeared in many Singaporean and Malaysian drama TV shows.

Hosting

Yugendran started his career as a television host by hosting musical programs on Jaya TV. He then expanded his hosting career by presenting musical shows on Sun TV and VJ TV. Apart from hosting musical programs, he also hosted reality shows such as ‘Treasure Hunt’ on Jaya TV and a couples contest show on the same channel.

TV Producer

Yugendran founded two companies named ‘Rambutan Productions’ in India and ‘Rambutan Media Works’ in Singapore. Through these companies, he has produced numerous television programs for various countries, including India, Singapore, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka. He manages these ventures in partnership with his wife, Hayma Malini. Some of the Singaporean TV shows produced by him under Rambutan Media Works include ‘Endrendrum Punnagai,’ ‘Sollathaan Ninaikirain’ (a talk show), and ‘Vidumurai Vasantham’ (a holiday variety program).
