The character I play would have just finished her official training to be a part of the forest department. Her first posting is at a village. Leela is calm and composed and is a girl who knows her mind. I play Rishab sir’s leading lady and my character has taught me that a thousand words can conveyed in silences. She is someone who can talk even without uttering a word and this fascinated me as an actor.” [2]The Times of India

Controversy

In 2022, Sapthami Gowda’s film Kantara was accused of plagiarism by the music band Thaikkudam Bridge. According to the music band, the song ‘Varaha Roopam’ from the film Kantara is a copy of the Kannada music album ‘Navarasam.’ The music band Thaikkudam Bridge also appealed to their listeners to disseminate about copyright infringement. Thaikkudam Bridge shared a post on Instagram about the plagiarism issue along with a caption that read,

We would like our listeners to know that Thaikkudam Bridge is in no way or form affiliated with “Kantara”. The unavoidable similarities between our IP “Navarasam” and “Varaha Roopam” in terms of audio is therefore a blatant infringement of copyright laws. From our standpoint the line between “Inspired” and “Plagiarized” is distinct and indisputable and therefore, we will be seeking legal action against the creative team responsible for this. There has been no acknowledgement of our rights over the content and the song is propagated as an Original piece of work by the movie’s creative team (sic).” [4]India Today

  • In an interview, Sapthami Gowda recalled her Kannada film ‘Kantara’ and said that she attended an accent modification workshop for the film. She quoted,

Actually, Rishab (Shetty) sir was hunting for a face, which will perfectly suit for the film. And he found my picture on Instagram and that’s how sir called me for the audition and the look test and then the look was completely fine. But the original movie in Kannada is Mangalore Kannada but I am from Bangalore, so there was a mismatch of languages there. So the accent and everything. So we started a workshop on the characterization and the language. So that took about two months or so and then during this process, the most exciting and the selling point of everything was when I went to meet sir on the first day, he showed me clips of what you’ve seen like Kola and Daiva on YouTube. So, once I watch that I said to myself I have to do everything from my end to be part of this movie because it was a big learning curve for me. I’ve been born and brought up in Bangalore, I stayed in Karnataka for 25-26 years and I had no clue about this kind of culture. So, it was a big learning process for me.” [6]Firstpost
