Sagar Rana, also known as Sagar Dhankad, was an Indian junior national wrestling champion.^[1]The Times of India The 22-year-old wrestler was murdered by a group of people on 4 May 2021.

Sagar Rana was born on Sunday, 23 November 1997 (age 22 years; at the time of death) in the Jhajjar district of Haryana, India. His zodiac sign was Sagittarius. He went to a local government school in Jhajjar to receive his primary education. Sagar got himself enrolled at the University of Delhi for pursuing his higher education.^[2]Facebook He was very fond of wrestling since childhood and started practicing the sport professionally at the age of 6.

Parents & Siblings

Sagar’s father was born to Ashok Dhankar and Savita Dhankar. Sagar’s father is a Police constable, and his mother is a homemaker. His brother owns a dairy shop in his village in Jhajjar.

 

Career

Sagar Rana started practicing wrestling techniques at the age of 6. He used to play wrestling at the state level during his schooling. Later, he learned pehlwani wrestling at the Akhada Chattrasal Stadium, Delhi. According to his parents, Sagar was inspired by Sushil Kumar to take up wrestling as his professional career. He always dreamt of representing Indian at the International championships.

Death

Sagar Rana was murdered outside the parking lot of Chhatrasal stadium in New Delhi on 4 May 2021. India’s two-time Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar’s involvement was also reported in the murder case of Sagar Rana. Sushil Kumar was on the run since his alleged involvement in the Sagar Rana murder case was surfaced. Later, Delhi Police issued a lookout warrant for Sushil Kumar and his Sushil’s associate Ajay Kumar. Delhi police also announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information that would lead to Sushil Kumar’s arrest and a Rs 50,000 cash reward was announced for information about Ajay Kumar.
