Parupalli was born onĀ 8 September 1986 inĀ Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India.Ā At a very young age, he decided to make his career in badminton. As his father had a transferrable job, he faced lots of difficulties in his career and even once he suffered from Asthma but he never loose hope and with his power and determination, he soon cured from that problem and achieved his goal of becoming a famous badminton player. His biggest achievement was to receive the Arjuna Award from the Government of India.

Career

Parupalli Kashyap did his graduation in Commerce. His father enrolled him in a training camp when he was 11. The camp was conducted in Hyderabad byĀ an Indian badminton coach Syed Mohammed Arif. Because of the transferrable job of his father, his family moved to various places. During his stay in Bengaluru, he attended theĀ Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy to receive training inĀ badminton. In 2004, he returned to his native place Hyderabad. At that time, he knew thatĀ he was diagnosed with Asthma. With the help of proper treatment, he was cured with this problem and again started getting training in badminton from the Gopichand Badminton Academy in Hyderabad underĀ a former Indian badminton player Pullela Gopichand.

He then played his first match for Andhra Pradesh in 2005Ā at the National Junior Open Badminton Championships and became the winner of the boysā€™ singles title. After this, he was chosen for the international tournaments in 2006. In that year, he defeatedĀ Przemyslaw Wacha– world number 19 badminton player twice, first atĀ the Hong Kong Open tournament and then, at theĀ Bitburger Open tournament due to which his world ranking reached from 100 to 64.

Instantly, Parupalli choseĀ to represent India for the 2006 Asian Games and won several tournaments. In 2012, his world ranking reached to 19 after he became the first IndianĀ to reach the quarterfinal in menā€™s singles in the Olympics. In the same year, he reached to 14 after he won the title ofĀ Indian Open Grand Prix Gold inĀ menā€™s singles.

In 2014, he won the gold medal for IndiaĀ in menā€™s singles after 32 years, because of which, his name was written amongst the two Indian Badminton legends who were also won the gold medal in the same event, Prakash PadukoneĀ in 1978 and Syed ModiĀ in 1982.

In 2015, Parupalli Kashyap went to theĀ Indonesia Superseries semifinals, but he could not play due toĀ a severe calf injury.

In 2016,Ā Hyderabad Hunters selected himĀ for the Premier Badminton League (PBL) and he won several tournaments for his team.
